Purple Red’s theatrical poster for a fun indie comedy – based on a true story – mixing romance and rock n’ roll.
Love Songs of a Third Grade Teacher tells the story of Sabrina, who is teaching third graders by day, and singing her heart out in clubs at night. Directed by Michaela von Schweinitz, the movie stars Sabrina Stevenson, who gives a tender, realistic view of life as a punk rock singer in Los Angeles searching for love as she finds her way into her 40s.

Purple Red’s concept expresses how big Sabrina’s heart is and how lonely it feels to be on her quest. We kept the overall tone white, black and kilt-y to enhance the comedy aspect of it, yet introduced some little subtle details…notice the illusion of a stage created by her front foot’s shadow, look at how the wire coils around her leg to amplify her expression, and note the “Film Alliance” logo integrated on the amp (instead of sitting at the bottom of the credit block).

2) Two shots of Sabrina have been combined to create the key art. The montage has been followed up by the usual retouching, color correction, and special effects treatment. A drop shadow and a reflective shadow have been created to anchor the character in the white space.
