Based on animated elements created for the movie, the somehow dramatic Key-Art design for Death by China required some hyper realistic re-creation work.

Purple Red’s assignment was to combine two screen shots and turn them into the key-art for a movie poster. Since the screen resolution is not good enough for print purposes, and that we tend to be particularly detailed oriented when it comes to composition, lights, shadows and finish, we had to re-create elements to make this work properly.

2) The handle was definitely a fun little challenge, since we started from a real note bill and tweaked it in our favorite 2D software until it looked like the shape we were aiming for. A bit of lights and shadows would incorporate it nicely within the rest of the montage. The idea was to invite the eyes of the viewer to focus on such a detailed area…so that they would possibly not notice that some other elements may be a bit softer.
A couple of carefully manually designed shadows, some texture, hints of lights, and a finishing touch with a slightly enhanced contrast made it as ready as it could get for print!
